Sean McVay Excited About Rams 2025 Draft Class

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is brimming with enthusiasm following the 2025 NFL Draft, where the team added six promising players, including standout running back Jarquez Hunter. Speaking to the media during this weeks OTAs, McVay expressed confidence in the team’s draft strategy, emphasizing the collaborative effort between the coaching staff and front office, led by general manager Les Snead. His excitement centers on the clear vision for how each rookie fits into the Rams’ roster, which is poised for another deep playoff run after a 10-7 season and an NFC West title in 2024.

A Collaborative Draft Process

McVay highlighted the synergy in the Rams’ draft preparation, noting that all six picks were players the team highly valued. “I think when you look at it, really all six of our picks, we had a real appreciation for,” McVay said. “I think that’s what lessened his group in collaboration with our coaches, they did a great job with having a vision for how these guys fit.” This collaborative approach ensured that each selection aligned with the team’s scheme and long-term goals, a testament to the alignment between McVay, Snead, and the scouting department.

The Rams’ draft strategy also involved a calculated assessment of how the rest of the NFL viewed their targets. “Let’s play the game in terms of, alright, where do we think the rest of the league sees these guys?” McVay explained. This mindset allowed the Rams to secure players they believed were undervalued by other teams, maximizing the value of their picks.

Jarquez Hunter: A Home-Run Hitter

Among the 2025 draftees, running back Jarquez Hunter from Auburn stands out as a player McVay is particularly excited about. “Jarquez was a guy, in addition to some other running backs that we had real appreciation for, there was a vision for how he fit,” McVay said. Hunter’s college production—4,814 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns—caught the Rams’ attention, especially given the elite SEC competition he faced. McVay praised Hunter’s ability to “hit home runs,” referencing his explosive playmaking and versatility as both a runner and receiver.

McVay also highlighted Hunter’s intangibles, which became evident during a Zoom meeting with the coaching staff. “We got a chance to have a Zoom meeting with him as coaches, just liked his demeanor,” McVay noted. Hunter’s poise and fit within the Rams’ culture further solidified the team’s decision to draft him. Paired with lead back Kyren Williams, Hunter is expected to form a dynamic duo in the backfield, complementing the Rams’ high-powered offense led by Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams.

Confidence in the Entire Class

While Hunter is a focal point, McVay’s excitement extends to the entire 2025 draft class and even the undrafted free agents (UDFAs) the Rams signed. “The other five guys and really a lot of these undrafted free agents felt the same way,” he said, underscoring the team’s belief in the potential of all their new additions. Among the notable draftees are tight end Terrance Ferguson, whose 6’7” frame and red-zone prowess add depth to a thin position group, and linebacker Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr., whose speed and coverage skills address a critical need.

McVay’s confidence in the UDFAs reflects the Rams’ history of finding hidden gems, such as Alaric Jackson in 2021. The coaching staff’s clear vision for how these players fit—whether as immediate contributors or developmental prospects—sets the stage for a competitive training camp.

Building on 2024 Success

The Rams’ optimism about their 2025 draft class comes on the heels of a resurgent 2024 season, where they overcame a 1-4 start to finish 10-7 and secure a playoff victory. With a roster already boasting an elite defensive line (Jared Verse, Poona Ford, Kobie Turner), a top-tier receiving corps, and a strong offensive line, the addition of young talent like Hunter, Ferguson, and Paul Jr. enhances the team’s depth and versatility.

McVay’s leadership, rated 9.63/10 by players (4th overall in the NFL), remains a cornerstone of the Rams’ success. His ability to integrate new players into his system, combined with the front office’s savvy roster-building, positions the Rams as a formidable contender for Super Bowl LX in San Francisco.

Looking Ahead

As the Rams prepare for the 2025 season, McVay’s excitement about the draft class signals a bright future. Jarquez Hunter’s explosive potential, paired with the upside of players like Terrance Ferguson and Chris Paul Jr., gives the Rams a blend of immediate contributors and long-term investments. With approximately $34 million in cap space and 70 players signed, the Rams have the flexibility to further refine their roster in free agency or through additional UDFA signings.

McVay’s vision for the 2025 draft class, rooted in collaboration and strategic foresight, sets the stage for another competitive season. If the rookies live up to their potential, Jarquez Hunter, Terrance Ferguson, and Chris Paul Jr. could make significant contributions in 2025.
